On January 20th, Inaguration Day, the Multicultural Resource Center, GIAC, Islamic Community Outreach Services, SURJ Ithaca and Jewish Voice for Peace Ithaca hosted a bystander intervention training -- teaching 130 community members how to intervene in instances of public violence or harassment on the basis of identity (race, religion, gender, ability, etc.).
If you would like to host a training for your organization, please reach out to us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We also want to share two easy to print/share resources. First, are the Four D's* (Direct, Delay, Delegate, Distract) of bystander intervention adapted from Hollaback. We highly recommend visiting their site here. Second, is a simple list of Do's and Don'ts put together by Communities Against Islamaphobia/American Friends Service Committee, adapted from the work of The People's Response Team.
